AcroScreen kit allows to quantify the total acrosin activity present in spermatozoa relative to the activity of a known amount of protease.

Acrosin is a proteolytic enzyme found in acrosome that allows sperm to penetrate through the zona pellucida (a glycoprotein layer surrounding the plasma membrane of mammalian oocytes).

Low concentrations of acrosin are related with infertility and with the failure of in vitro fertilization. Thus, it has been suggested as a novel indicator of sperm quality in human.
