SCA Vitality

SCA® Vitality is a module that automatically provides the percentage of live and dead spermatozoa in a human semen sample.

This analysis module is also
available for Veterinary and Toxicology.

Sperm Vitality is estimated by assessing the membrane integrity of the cells, and is fundamental for samples having less than 40% progressive motile spermatozoa. The percentage of the viable cells normally exceeds that of motile cells.

Vitality assessment can be performed with BrightVit kit (in brightfield) or with FluoVit kit (under fluorescence).

SCA® Vitality main features

Vitality analysis with BrightVit or FluoVit

Analysis is performed in brightfield, in samples stained with BrightVit stain and can be also performed under fluorescence microscopy with FluoVit kit.

Vitality automatic analysis with BrightVit

Spermatozoa are recognized and classified automatically (in brightfield, alive sperm in white and dead sperm in red).

Vitality automatic analysis with FluoVit

Fluorescence analysis allows the differentiation between alive sperm (in blue), and the dead sperm (in red).

The assessment is under fluorescence microscopy at 20x:  The specimen is illuminated with light of a specific wavelength, which is absorbed by the fluorochromes, causing them to emit light of longer wavelengths, i.e., of a different color than the absorbed light .
Vitality of spermatozoa is evaluated indirectly though the integrity of the cellular membrane using vital fluorescence staining FluoVit®.
Vitality analysis can be also assessed in brightfield at 20x using the BrightVit stain.
Possibility to add or eliminate spermatozoa and/or captures fields
Calculation of basic parametres: Number and percentage of live and dead spermatozoa.
Visualization of the analysis mask superimposed to the original image.
Image capture takes 1 second per field
Allows capture up to 30 fields of the sample
