Technological and engineering updates to take care of male fertility

It should come as no surprise that technology has made significant enhancements. Daily life is filled with incredible evidence of how far our lives have come from what we see, read, hear and living within every moment.

We can enrich the quality of our lives because of just how technologies are being used to facilitate and ease our real lives.

Why semen analysis?

In healthcare field, generally, and sexual and reproductive health in particular, several scientists and doctors are working diligently to reach a high level of maintaining, improving, and treating men’s health every day. As it signifies half of the sexual relationship, responsible to produce semen, which subsequently results in pregnancy and childbirth.

This body fluid that a man produces upon reaching the stage of ejaculation during the process of sexual arousal, whatever method is used, remains the gold standard for measuring a man’s fertility and one of the most important criteria when assessing the chances of pregnancy achievement among couples.

Like other body fluids; semen is known in medicine and clinical analysis since decades, and scientists learned about its components at the very beginning when the microscope is discovered, it is a very effective method till today. With saving data manually for detailed analysis.

Semen by itself is not the measure! In fact, the components are the basis that matter, meaning the sperm parameters.

The biological characteristics of sperm makes it essential for detailed examination of the sperm, since the innate features are different compared to other body cells characteristics, sperms are distinguished by its movement behaviour, morphological and numerical features.

Technological opportunities:

Several technologies are available in healthcare industry to facilitate our job in identifying results accurately. And the competition between providers is identically healthy to us as this is vital between clinical side and engineering to adapt the best practice and to perform semen analysis confidently and accessible at any time for further purposes, e.g., research.

Clinical scientists are playing a major role to make this happen. The beauty of today’s technologies in semen analysis is providing us with clear and high-quality pictures and videos to make the clinical judgments and treatment plans.

Challenges and recommendations:

That have been said, we will be having enormous data of semen analysis globally. To make the optimum use of this data is make certain it is stored properly and shared responsibly with decision maker and stake holders. As mentioned by WHO lately in the last edition of the human semen analysis manuals, sharing data from wide prospective internationally remains one of the challenges. The debates over more thorough and sophisticated semen analysis testing, such as DNA fragmentation and oxidative stress testing, and their implications for therapeutic approaches are still in the infancy stages. Despite the paucity of studies on the subject, this is a great opportunity for researchers to explore.

I see that nowadays there are plenty of highly qualified personnel working in the field they have the passion, the initiatives that they can merge the clinical backgrounds with technological and engineering updates to make an important impact into male fertility care.
